NO MESS, NO RUBBLE

Fast and clean

What is a bathroom makeover without building work?

A bathroom makeover without building work renews the look and the practicality of the bathroom by working over what’s already there, instead of demolishing it. Rather than hacking off the tiles and carting away rubble, new finishes go straight over the existing tiling (microcement, vinyl or panels) and the elements that age the room most get replaced: shower screen, taps, vanity unit or worktop. The result looks very much like a full renovation, but with no noise, no dust and without losing the use of the bathroom for weeks. It’s the ideal option when the plumbing and the wiring are in good shape and what you want is a complete change of appearance.

Our solutions

Ways to renew your bathroom without building work

Not every bathroom needs the same thing. These are the solutions we use, on their own or combined, depending on the state of your bathroom and the finish you’re after.

Microcement over tiles

We apply a continuous layer of microcement straight over the existing tiling. No grout lines, no rubble and a contemporary finish on walls, floor and shower tray.

Vinyl sheet and tiles

Heavy-duty vinyl finishes laid over the current tiles. Quick to fit, waterproof and available in a huge range of looks.

PVC and SPC wall panels

Tongue-and-groove panels that cover the wall completely with no building work. Light, watertight and fitted in very few days.

Tile paint

Specialist tile enamels that change the colour of the bathroom entirely at very modest cost. The cheapest option when the tiling is sound.

Screen, taps and sanitaryware

We replace the shower screen, taps, basin, unit or toilet without touching the pipework. It's what takes years off a bathroom with the least intervention.

Bath swapped for a shower

We replace the bath with a made-to-measure shower tray using the existing space, without moving the wastes and in one or two days.

The usual question

With or without building work: which suits you

Neither option is better than the other: it depends on the real state of your bathroom and on what you need to change. Here's the honest comparison, so you decide on the merits and not on price.

Without building work

A complete change of appearance over what you already have.

  • Timescale Between 2 and 5 days.
  • Rubble and dust Virtually none: nothing gets broken up.
  • Using the home You can carry on living at home as normal.
  • What changes Finishes, screen, taps, unit and sanitaryware.
  • When it's worth it When the plumbing is fine and you just want a new-looking bathroom.
With building work

A full renovation, including what you can't see.

  • Timescale Between one and two weeks.
  • Rubble and dust Yes: there's demolition and waste to take away.
  • Using the home The bathroom is out of action while the work goes on.
  • What changes Plumbing, electrics, layout and wastes as well.
  • When it's worth it If there's damp, old pipework or you want to change the layout.

Not sure which? On the visit we check the state of the tiling and the plumbing and tell you which of the two genuinely suits you, at no obligation.

Straight talking

When a makeover isn't the answer

It isn’t always worth it, and we’d rather tell you beforehand. If the plumbing or the wastes are giving trouble, if there’s damp or water getting in behind the tiling, if you want to move the toilet or the basin, or if the tiles sound hollow or are coming away, covering them only hides the problem and it will be back before long. In those cases we’ll tell you on the visit and propose a conventional renovation, even though it’s a smaller sale for us. We’d rather have a bathroom that lasts twenty years than one that looks good for six months.

A quote made for you

How much does a bathroom makeover cost?

No two bathrooms are alike, so there’s no single price. What we can tell you is that a makeover without building work comes out cheaper than a full renovation, because you save the demolition, the waste removal and a good part of the labour. This is what makes the difference in your quote:

That’s why we don’t publish fixed rates: every case is different and we’d rather see it before giving a figure. Write or call us and we’ll arrange a no-obligation visit, with a detailed quote broken down line by line, free of charge.

Frequently asked questions about bathroom makeovers

Here are the questions we get asked most before taking the plunge. If you still have one, write to us and we’ll help, at no obligation.

New finishes go straight over the existing tiling: microcement, vinyl or PVC and SPC panels. First the surface is cleaned, levelled and primed to guarantee adhesion. The old tiling stays underneath, untouched and creating no rubble.

It depends above all on the solution you choose, the area to cover and how many items get replaced. What’s certain is that it works out cheaper than a full renovation, because you save the demolition and the waste removal. We don’t publish fixed rates because every bathroom is different: get in touch and we’ll arrange a no-obligation visit to give you a detailed, itemised quote.

Two to five days in most cases, against a good two weeks for a full renovation. Microcement also needs a few days to cure before you can use the shower normally; we set that out in the quote so you can plan around it.

Microcement, vinyl sheet and tiles, PVC or SPC panels and specialist tile enamels. The choice depends on the area: in the shower tray and on walls in direct contact with water we use tougher materials and reinforced sealing.

As it doesn’t change the layout or touch anything structural, a minor works notification is usually enough, and in many municipalities not even that. We’ll confirm what your particular case needs and handle the paperwork if it’s required.

We give a written guarantee on materials and workmanship. If the finish comes away or a fault in the application shows up, we put it right at no cost.

Yes, as long as the bath’s existing space is used and the wastes don’t have to move. It’s one of the most rewarding jobs: in one or two days you gain space, accessibility and safety.

Done properly, quality microcement or panelling lasts ten or fifteen years without trouble. What makes the difference is preparing the surface beforehand: if the tiling is sound and well primed, the finish lasts like new.
